I was working at a fairly high-maintenance Eikaiwa for 2 weeks, and they told me they’re “rescinding their job offer.” I didn’t sign a contract allowing them to do that, just a terse boilerplate contract for the CoE. They don’t have valid grounds for firing me, it was literally just not a good personality fit. What should be my nexts steps? I’m going to the labor board today.

Well they are within their legal rights to terminate during the probation period iirc.
Get job hunting again
Two weeks they could fire you for your hair color so yeah, you’re just gonna have to find another job. Always be a perfect robot during the probation period.
You can’t do anything. You’re a new hire, they’ll say you’re a trainee, and they’re now within their rights to rescind. You can’t have “personality clash” here or they’ll get rid of you.
What does “high maintenance eikaiwa” even mean?
Were you repairing machinery and changing lightbulbs?
“Personality fit” huh.
Hello.btwo weeks is the employee minimum for firing a person with no real legal ramifications. You will need to start looking for another gig.
Sorry for that.
Why would you fight for the job if they had already said they don’t like your personality and it only taking you two weeks to decide it’s high-maintenance?
Just look for a different place
Termination during the probationary period is legal in Japan, especially if done within 14 days, where it can be done immediately. Within 30 days, with proper procedures, it is also permissible. Their actions are completely legal, and there is nothing you can do.
Instead of trying to fight this, you really need to sit down and reflect on how you got fired in 2 weeks.
You could also contact Hello Work. In any case your next steps will depend on what Labor or HW tell you.
Can someone fire him from the whole country?
I was going to post some advice, and then I saw you were a mens’ rights bro. Pretty easy to guess what went down.
Tip: if everyone at your workplace thinks you’re an asshole, it’s probably you not them.
FYI, the labor board will only advise you if you are in the right and have a legal case. They may talk to the company on your behalf but that’s as far as they go.
If the labor board agrees you were terminated illegally then its up to you to lawyer up and sue.
TBH, I think you are just best walking away and finding a new job.
I feel so bad for the labor board.
‘I’m going to the labor board’ appears way to often. You have no chance of achieving anything with them, nothing illegal took place.
I appreciate your post is a way more relevant than this, but ill never forget the girl here who said she’s going to the labour board because she wasn’t invited to a party at work.
Boilerplate to apply for CoE…were you then given a work visa? Did they have you working illegally?
Anyone on the Nova grapevine got the skinny on the OP? I am sure the OP being canned is the hot topic amongst the Nova drone community.
They… do have valid grounds for firing you.
I’m glad your eikaiwa dodged a bullet.
Why you went for a women-dominated industry?
did you try “ごめんなsorry”?
I was gonna feel bad for you. I’ve heard nightmare stories from my bf about abusive eikawas. But then I looked at your account and now I might be starting to see how it turned out this way
If you’re gonna get fired, at least be a horrible employee… like trying hard and then getting fired sucks but if you literally just show up and be on your phone, you’re cashing in
