Nervous about apartment screening process

Okay, I have heard mixed things. I’m currently getting ready to move back to Tokyo. I found my dream apartment and I’m waiting for the screening to finish. My employer helped with everything and they’re even going to pay the initial payment. Here’s the thing! I went to Europe and I was away for a while. I missed a letter from SMBC and apparently I went over my credit card limit by 20,0000. Yes very dumb of me! I didn’t know you could go over your limit. Anyway, I called them and arranged to pay it off 300,00 at a time until it was gone… but since I was away they CANCELLED MY CARD. Which mean I, a person who never missed a payment or anything until now, am blacklisted. I’m freaking out because this may screw me up for the apartment thing. Idk what all matters to Japanese management companies when they check for apartments. I have the salary, I have several credit cards, etc. SMBC is the only one with a problem but I know Japan is kind of a loser loses all country… so like do you think this snaffu is going to ruin my life (as far as renting apartments)?

  1. If you are talking about a rental then I don’t believe they would know anything about that. If you are trying to get a loan to buy a place then maybe you have a problem

  2. They don’t do a credit rating and if your employer is involved, you will be fine! We can’t get involved with properties you have already enquired on but we do specialise in expat housing (100% Japanese owned company).

If you get stuck we have access to great luxury mansions in central Tokyo and can advocate for you on properties you have already taken a liking to.
