Are online non japanese MBAs valid when applying for PR?

I want to live in Japan again in a few years. I’m a software engineer and I have a bachelor’s in my field, so for a work visa I’m in good shape.

The issue is that I want to pursue an MBA in my home country, but I don’t want to commit (price is steep) without knowing if it would *also* help me in obtaining japanese PR in the future.
This MBA would be completed remotely over a duration of 18 months (600 hours) while I continue to work full time. How can I find out if it would be recognized by the Japanese government?

Thank you!

  2. Talk to the Japanese embassy or consulate that serves your region. They should be able to answer that for you. The biggest question I have is: is the university and program accredited by the appropriate accreditation body in your country? That will make a difference. Nevertheless, the embassy should be able to direct your inquiry. Good luck!

  3. If you want to use your MBA internationally you will be better off if it has at least one international accreditation. AACSB is the gold standard, if your program is AACSB accredited it would be very surprising if Japan doesn’t accept it for points on your PR application. More than one international accreditation is even better. EQUIS and AMBA are also highly regarded, I’d expect an MBA with either of those stamps of approval would also be viewed favorably.

  4. If it’s from an accredited university, it’ll be fine. I got my master’s online and used it to change fields. Real universities don’t stamp “ONLINE FAKE DEGREE” on their diplomas.
