  1. Context: the characters are somewhere deep in a tunnel and have stumbled upon huts. (Unfriendly people appear just a few lines after the one below.)

    What does verb ます-stem + 知れない mean? (That is, does it have a general meaning like when you add 込む to a verb ます-stem?) And grammatically, what is 言い知れない modifying? Near the end, とこさえなく, is this the if/when と followed by a verb?

    (My interpretation) Satoshi felt something like an uneasiness from intuition that couldn’t be put into words. He tried to keep it in check, but when he feels such an atmosphere, he can’t. Takuya (on the other hand) cheerfully ran off.
