Itenerary Check: 23-day Road Trip!

Hi everyone. I will take a 3-week road trip from November 7 until November 29. I had a plan laid out, and am looking for some feedback.

First of all, [here’s a general route we want to follow, where the red line is the route, and the blue lines are day-trips](https://imgur.com/LX8ryyy)

Here’s the plan: 1 night in Narita, 3 nights in Nikko, 3 Nights in Yamanouchi (Nagano), 6 nights in Takayama, 4 nights near Fuji, 3 nights in Yachimata (Chiba).

Day 1: Fly to Japan from Amsterdam (overnight flight) at 8:30 P.M. (local time)

Day 2: Arrive in Japan 8:30 P.M. the next day (local time) – Check in at hotel in Narita and try ti sleep away the jetlag

Day 3: Rent the car, spend the afternoon & dinner in Narita, and drive to Nikko AirBNB (we have 3 designated drivers)

Day 4: Nikko Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park & Toushou-gu Temple Complex & Kirifuri Falls

Day 5: Edo Wonderland, going to Kinugawa Onsen.

Day 6: Driving the Iroha Slope, visiting the Akechidaira Ropeway Observation Deck, visiting Kegon Falls, and hiking around the lake (8km/5 miles), driving to AirBNB #2 in Yamanouchi (Nagano)

Day 7: Visiting Snow Monkeys & Visiting Yubatake-Onsen village

Day 8: Visiting Nagano

Day 9: Drive to Takayama, and visit the Daio Wasabi Farm & Matsumoto Castle on the way there

Day 10: Walk through Takayama and visit various things we like like; chill day

Day 11: Drive to the Nakasendo trail and hike there for the day. (Alternative is visiting Gero-Onsen Village if we don’t feel like hiking)

Day 12: Drive to Toyama to take a train through Kurobe Gorge & rent a private Onsen Bath. Dinner in Toyama. Drive back to Takayama.

Day 13: \[Flex-day and chill-day to see how we feel. Maybe visit more things in Takayama, and just take it slow. Hida Folk Village for example\]

Day 14: Daytrip to Kanazawa: Omichou-Market, Kenroku-en Japanese Garden, and walking through the Higashi Chaya District. Drive back to Takayama

Day 15: Visit Shinhotaka Outdoor Public Onsen in Chuubu-Sangaku National Park. Take a lift up the mountain and hike back down (not too far). If there’s left-over time, visit the nearby Hirayu waterfall

Day 16: Pack & drive to AirBNB #4 near Fuji. On the way we can either visit Matsumoto (again), visit the Suwa Jingu Shrine in Suwa, or visit the Mineral Museum near Fuji.

Day 17: Drive around Mount Fuji, and visit the camping place & lodge from Yuru Camp at Lake Motosu. Visit Kubota Itchiku Art Museum & Chureito Pagoda OR have dinner & walk around Oshino Hakkai.

Day 18: Daytrip to Hakone to visit one of many things, we’re not sure which ones we want to visit yet. Maybe the pool in Kowakien Yunessun Hotel, maybe Hakone Shrine & Mountain by cable car, maybe the Glass Museum, maybe visit Owakudani. Will definitely take the evening to take the train from Hakone-Gora to Hakone-Yumoto [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG\_QzyoNS9c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG_QzyoNS9c)

Day 19: Here we want to take either a 2nd day in Hakone if we missed to much, OR make a road-trip through the Izu Peninsula including the Izu Skyline (see map image above)

Day 20: If we did the road trip yesterday, we can visit Hakone today on the way to AirBnB #5 Chiba, or visit the Silk museum in Tokyo.

Day 21: Drive to the Isuma Railway to take the scenic Kominato Tetsudo Line. Visit the Yoro-Keikoku bridge & waterfalls near one of the stations. If we have time, either visit the beach on the way back, or the Nomizo Waterfall-cave.

Day 22: Day-trip to Sawara.

Day 23: Back to Narita; visit the National Museum of Japanese History. Visit some more yatai/stalls in Narita + dinner & fly back.
