Itinerary advice: 3 weeks. Tokyo>Osaka>Naoshima>Kyoto>Shibu Onsen>Tokyo

Hi!

Just thought I’d check in and make sure I’m not cramming too much in here.

I haven’t got a JR pass as I suspect it won’t work out for me.

Intending on picking up a local sim when I land. Wrong idea??

Any comments or advice appreciated

**Tokyo: 9/17 – 23rd**

Land Narita 7am, suspect I may get the bus to Shinjuku.

Staying Shinjuku

Booked tickets include DisneySea, TeamLabPlanets, Ghibli Museum

I’m assuming getting from Shinjuku to Disney sea during early morning is going to be a nightmare, so any advice appreciated.

I’ve left things loose after those big ticket items! I may just vibe in some nice areas and hit up record stores. I love digital art so if you have any reccs please drop below.

Have already booked and paid for Tokyo(15:30)–>NOZOMI 45–>Shin-Osaka(18:00), Series N700, Green

**Osaka: 23rd to 28th**

Booked Universal Stuidos, staying around Dotonbori.

Have time to do a day trip, likely Nara.

**Naoshima: 28th – 10/1**

Again, not sure how I am getting from Osaka to Naoshima.

Booked ChiChu Museum on the Saturday so I guess I’ll hit up Teshima on Friday

**Kyoto: 1st – 5th**

Booked KATSURA IMPERIAL VILLA, trying to get moss garden tickets.

Again loose plans. Tea drinking, snacking, Temple visits, wandering.

**Shibu Onsen: 5th – 7th**

Absolutely no idea how to get here yet. I have a nice traditional place to stay, nothing posh.

Heard there are some private onsens I can book also?

**Tokyo: 7th – 9th**

1 night before flying out of Narita, not sure where.

Thanks!

  1. I think it’s a good schedule. I usually dislike schedules that have you moving from city to city every 1 or 2 days because it feels like you don’t get to relax, you seem to have longer breaks in the major cities so I think it’s fine.

I assume your phone is unlocked, in which case a sim card is the way to go imo. Carrying a pocket wifi can be slightly annoying, unless you’re traveling with multiple people.

As for your routes to shibu onsen and Naoshima that you haven’t planned yet, google maps will literally solve that for you. Enter Kyoto station to Shibu Onsen and it will list several options you can take with different combinations of train lines and stations at different prices. Google maps will be your savior in Japan, make sure to always check platform number, train name, and line name to not ride the wrong train.
