Is Gulliver a good place to buy a used car?

I gonna be in japan (Kanagawa) for about 3 more years, my house has a parking space that’s being unused and we’d like to go on weekend adventures to places where the train doesn’t go.
Our budget is around 50-60万
Can anyone recommend a good dealership or place to get a good and reliable used car for the above price range?
Thanks!

  1. From my own experience, you can generally trust most dealers here. But just in case you should look up their reputation online.

I’d recommend you to go around to a couple of used car dealers to get an idea of what kind of car you want (actually go and physically see the car), then use something like car sensor to get a general idea of the market value of the car.

Also note that there are usually additional fees (shaken, recycling fee etc) that are not included in the sticker price, so a car listed for 40~45 might have a total cost of 50~60. This is a common practice, and not a scam so be sure to ask for the total price.

Lastly, you generally can’t expect to negotiate the price much on used cars here. Especially for the price range we are talking about here.

  2. Big Motor will probably be happy to give you a good deal at the moment, and definitely won’t be in the mood to try any shenanigans.

  3. For that budget I would consider going direct to private seller or uction. Dealers are going to want a nice 10-15man cut on that sale, a large amount.

  4. I run a car export business and have procured a couple from Gulliver. I’ve found them to be professional and honest, but typically a bit more expensive. However, keep in mind they have a lot of branches so it could be case by case. For that budget, finding something cheap (like half your budget and spending the rest on maintenance) at a car auction might be your best bet, but it largely depends on what you want. Good luck!

  5. My first car I bought used from them. Car was very reliable, but we noticed issues with the Navi. They said they would fix it, then left my hazard lights unplugged after they performed their maintenance.

You could tell they wanted to be done with me since the sale was completed, but the dropped the ball on the little things. The car itself had no issues and drove it until the wheels fell off.
