Moved to Japan with the Spouse of Japanese National visa. Did not graduate college but I have N1 and I am going to take Kanken sometime next year. Currently doing translation and I am just in the 4M to 5M yen catagory on the PR calculator. I have just over a year of work experience in Japan. I turn 26 in January. My total points sit currently at 40. Am I basically just at a standstill and in an infinite loop of having to keep renewing my spouse visa until I die? I don’t feel like anything is going to significantly change since I am working and even if I got a degree I would be at 50 points.

The points are only if you take the HSP visa route.
If you’re married to a Japanese national and under a spouse visa, you can get PR in as little as 3 years.
