My family came to visit me with a 15-day visa, a member got Covid in Japan. What proceeds?

I was able to invite some family members as am I a resident of Japan. They were PCR negative before coming to Japan as per the rules. However in preparation to leave Japan yesterday they took another PCR test but this time 2 members got COVID positive. They called the German embassy but other than getting confirmation that they won’t be allowed on the plane, we couldn’t get much clear information. In particular, what happens with the 15-day visa which is about to expire? How long and where should they quarantine? etc.
I’m unsure as to how to proceed here as our Japanese is not great. Any advice on where to call or what to do I’d love to hear.

Thank you.

  1. You need to speak to your country’s embassy, that is what their job is supposed to be. Well, in theory.

  2. It’s supposed to be 10 days from 1st day of symptoms. As others said your Embassy must know!

  3. Edit: the reason they took the PCR is that they were flying to Thailand where they need a PCR to get in.

  4. But… but… that’s impossible! Everybody knows that COVID gets brought into Japan from those other evil countries! Somebody coming from out of Japan and getting COVID here? WTF!?!?!?!?
