Itinerary check (Tokyo, Kanazawa, Kyoto, and surroundings, two weeks, first time) (crosspost)

Hello all,

My girlfriend and I will be traveling to Japan for the first time in October and we drafted the following itinerary. I’d love it if you could check it and give some suggestions:

Day 1, Tokyo

– 10AM Landing at Haneda, allowing some time for passport control / luggage, getting our JR Pass (active from day 4 to day 11), SUICA, train tickets to Tokyo
– train to Asakusa. Since Airbnb check in time is at 4PM, we’d leave our luggage with Sagawa Express at Asakusa Station
– lunch, Senso-Ji temple, some sightseeing around the area
– retrieve luggage and check in at the Airbnb, walk around Taito, Ueno, Asakusa, whatever’s close

Day 2, Tokyo

– see Ginza, Chiyoda, Akihabara (too much stuff?)

Day 3, Nikko

– day trip to Nikko

Day 4, Kanazawa

-JR Pass is active
– train to Kanazawa, taxi to a secluded Ryokan, spend the day and night at the Ryokan

Day 5, Kanazawa

– taxi to Kanazawa, check in at hotel in Kanazawa, sightseeing around Kanazawa

Day 6, Kyoto

– train to Kyoto, arrive before noon
– check in at hotel
– quick trip to either Kinkaku-Ji or Arashiyama

Day 7, Kyoto

– walking trip around Ginkaku-Ji, Nansen-Ji, Chion-In, Ninenzaka

Day 8, Kyoto

– Fushimi Imari, either Kinkaku-Ji or Arashiyama (depending on what we saw on day 6)

Day 9, Nara

– Day trip to Nara

Day 10, Tokyo

– train to Tokyo, arrive before noon
– check in at hotel in Ryogoku
– sightseeing around Ryogoku and Sumida
– JR Pass ends

Day 11, Tokyo

– teamLAB planets
– Shibuya – Meji – Shinjuku
– Roppongi in the evening?

Day 12, Tokyo

– shopping spree for friends / family
– see some of what we missed

Day 13, Tokyo

– flight back home around noon

We tried to cluster together some areas that seem close to each other, rather than ping-ponging around the cities too much. Sometimes that’s not possible (like day 8 in Kyoto), but that’s fine.

Anything we’re missing that we should absolutely add? Any places in the areas that we should definitely check out?

Are we doing too much / too little?

Thanks!
