Transferring at Nagoya Station

I have two shinkansen tickets booked today from odawara ending in kyoto. I board the kodama landing in Nagoya at 12:37 today with 4 minutes to board the Nozomi at 12:41. I would like to believe i wont have to run across the station at nagoya to make my transfer and that I can walk from one platform to the next as nagoya’s shinkansen area looks to be just 4 lanes(ie. 14,15,16,17) ….am I correct? In retrospect i should have booked them further apart but It is a little late now.

  1. I’m confused as to why you booked two tickets between the two trains?

Why not just go from Odawara to Kyoto on the Kodama?

There’s really no reason to make a 4 minute transfer in Nagoya. 4 minutes is reasonable and you will make it. It just doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense. The bulk of the time consuming travel is the 9 stops between Odawara – Kyoto.

Between Nagoya and Kyoto is just 2 more stops. Doesn’t make much a difference time wise compared to the Odawara – Nagoya stretch.

  2. There is two track going in each direction, so what will happen is you get out of your train and the next one will be on the other side of the platform.

It’s a super easy transfer. At worst just get in the train and walk inside to the car you reserved, but if Smart EX is intelligent, it will align.
