Good beds for light sleepers with bad backs

Living in Tokyo and currently have a memory foam bed that is too hot, especially in the summer. I’m looking to buy a new queen size bed that’s good for a bad back and light sleepers. Any recommendations for bed brands and stores selling them? Thank you (Either Japanese or Western brands is fine)

  1. Do you need quite a firm mattress? Nitorri are quite good you can test out the mattress in the shop.

  2. I bought an expensive Emma bed from here: https://emma-sleep-japan.com/

They basically always have 50-60% off campaigns, like right now it seems to be 60%.

Not sure if their normal prices are just marked-up like crazy but I can vouch for the bed to be very high-quality and fantastic.

  3. [Panda](https://panda-japan.com/) is great. They have a 30 day try and return policy. Used to be that all returned mattresses were donated to charity as well (it’s been a few years since I’ve bought, that policy might have changed).

Use the mattress myself and have recommended to a bunch of people. The mattress has 2 sides, one very firm, and one firm. I’ve had back issues myself and absolutely love the thing.

  4. My friend bought a Purple mattress and swore by it. He lives stateside though, but if you have the cash, I’m sure you could either order it through a third party intermediary that could ship it here or just ship it to someone who’s willing to ship it to you).

I saw a Tempur-Pedic showroom here in Kyoto, and I know of some that like those mattresses.

Honestly, for me, I sleep on an Aerobed I bought from home. I can adjust the firmness based on how much air I put into it and since I have AS, it works for my back issues. Intex is the brand you can buy here in Japan, but I prefer Aerobed — which I think is only available in the US.

Edit: I had a Nitori coil mattress in the living room to act as a sofa bed (half single) and that bed was painful to sleep on. It was cheap though, so that’s probably why (less than 10,000 yen).

  5. I’m a light sleeper with a bad back (usually lower back pain). Koala mattress is expensive but has worked well for me, although it does require some rotation to keep it from sagging after several years. I’ve had mine for 4 years, but I’m getting the feeling it will no longer be optimal for my bad back in another 3-4 years.

Still, right now it’s heaven, I haven’t woken up with a painful back in a while.

  6. koala’s breeze mattress claims to solve the heat problem, maybe you could try that. Only problem for hot sleepers is there is no way to figure out hot it gets without sleeping with it for a few nights.

Maybe you could also look into importing an eight sleep. I haven’t done it yet because of price lol
