5. Is there actual video which shows the fatal shot? The videos I’ve seen on the news look away or get blocked after the first shot.

6. I remember watching the news at a hotel the first weekend I was in Japan. They showed footage of an airplane at a air show plow into a crowd of people scattering their bodies like confetti… But .. yeah someone getting shot is crossing the line.

10. Can someone explain to me why people don’t want this video to be accessible? Assuming proper warning is given. Isn’t this a historical event? For example, how is it different than watching footage of the Kennedy assassination?

    Not trying to start a fight, I actually just don’t understand.

11. I was surprised how on the front page of Japanese newspapers they had the pic of him dead on the ground with face visible.

13. I passed by Abe during one of my work trips in Africa. Great person and very kind. I live in Japan as a foreigner. his horrible death is a shock.

    I support the removal. I had watched the video multiple times yesterday. I found myself uncontrollably sobbing and cried myself to sleep. I’m an adult female. My friends told me they or their kids experienced the same sadness/grieve.

    For me, it feels like the world we are familiar with is collapsing, same as so many other things, the bear market, the once beautiful and peaceful Ukraine, covid death, airline bankruptcy, or even Sri Lanka country bankruptcy. Abe’s life is being taken so violently in such a peaceful nation feels very personal.

    I feel both hopeless and isolated tbh. I don’t want to think about future.

14. I’m surprised he was wearing a jacket in the boiling hot weather here in Japan. If he wasn’t so formal you would’ve seen a lot of blood in his white shirt

15. I saw both the videos pretty soon after the new broke. They were overly gory or anything but it still wasn’t nice to see at all. It’s good that they’re taking them down.

17. Censorship is a cornerstone of Western social media companies. They take down thousands (millions?) of posts every day. Mostly they censor right wing viewpoints, as the leaders of social media are very left wing.

    The fear regarding assassination videos is that copycat attacks may happen in America and elsewhere. The level of hatred between left and right wings in America and Europe is so extreme that one can easily imagine it sliding into political assassinations and bombings.

    A left wing man was arrested two weeks ago while carrying a gun near the home of a right wing US Supreme Court Justice. The man was there to kill the Justice.
