I bought a sticker for my mail box that days no junk mail in japanese with a cat bowing. Rarely ever get them now
Local recommendation from foreigner friends to us (foreigners) that has worked was put 外 on the door or mailbox. They’ll usually assume you don’t know Japanese and ignore. This was more meant for door-to-door salesmen so idk about efficacy for mail, but it works pretty well so far.

There is, and it’s surprisingly simple. You just put one of [these](https://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%81%E3%83%A9%E3%82%B7-%E3%81%8A%E6%96%AD%E3%82%8A-%E3%82%B9%E3%83%86%E3%83%83%E3%82%AB%E3%83%BC-%E3%82%BB%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AB%E3%82%B9-%E3%82%B9%E3%83%86%E3%83%83%E3%82%AB%E3%83%BC%C3%971%E6%9E%9A/dp/B0BBR41DSH?th=1) (or even write/print it) on your mailbox an the junk stops. Like 99% eliminated. I’m constantly amazed at how everyone abides by it. In all the years I’ve had it on my letterbox, in 3 different cities, the only company to ignore it was an indian takeaway. Newspapers from your city will still come through.
