Hi all,
I was under the impression that now is the time to be applying to teaching positions for April 2024, both alt and eikaiwa jobs. I currently work in Korea teaching English, so that start date lines up nicely with the end of my current contract. However, I received an email from one eikaiwa saying now is too early to be applying for that start date. Now I’m guessing I got the wrong end of the stick, and autumn / fall is purely the public school/ alt hiring season.
If I want to start working specifically in eikaiwa in April 2024, when do you think I should start applying? Bearing in mind processing time for CoE and visa of course.
(also, is there an actual main eikaiwa hiring season or is it genuinely all year round?)
Thanks!

Big eikaiwa companies are always hiring – turnover is extremely high and there are always openings somewhere. Smaller schools hire as needed, when people quit or are fired, so it’s probably a bit too early for those as they generally hire for an “ASAP start” or 2-3 mounts out when the outgoing teacher actually gives them notice. There is no “hiring season” for eikaiwa. It’s a customer service job, so it doesn’t follow school calendars.
I’ve also been told to calm now for now since most contracts end in April and the hiring season would slowly pick up the pace in the winter.
As someone else said. They do hire outside the season, too, but it depends on the demand. Schools start in April, so the demand is higher for that period.
I did notice a slight increase in offers and positios recently, maybe because the demand is a bit higher now, too. But from what other people told me, the bulk is at the start of 2024.
Apply whenever.
If the application has a spot for your desired start date, fill in “April 2024.”
If it doesn’t, indicate in your cover letter that you are looking to start in April 2024.
There you go!
Hi everyone! I’m in the same predicament as the poster. I was just wondering, where is everyone applying to these jobs? I’m looking to find a job in specific city because I need to live with my family for a while in Japan but I don’t even know where to start!
