Can I reach JLPT N4 by December?

Hi everyone, I’ve been learning Japanese for around 3 months now and I currently know around 1500 words, my biggest flaw for now is grammar as I haven’t dug much into it yet. I’d like to apply to a university exchange program at a Japanese university and I think that having a N4 certification would be a plus compared to the other candidates (speaking Japanese is not required but it can certainly help).
The thing is that the next JLPT session in my country is in December and I have two weeks left to sign up. I’m fairly confident I should be able to pass N5 by then but I’m not sure if I’ll manage to pass N4 however, any idea on what I should do? Has some of you gone through something similar? I study for around 1 hour everyday btw

  1. Nothing is impossible, but study for 1 hour a day feels like not enough. It depends on how familiar you are with the language already.

I passed N4 the first time by practicing with JLPT materials, reviewing materials multiple times, memorising new kanji, listening to JP youtubers, listening to JP podcast, etc

  2. So you’ve been retaining close to 20 words a day in just an hour? That’s wild.

Try some practice tests for N4 and N5 and see how you do. If it feels unlikely it probably is. If it’s not even a requirement for the thing you’re applying for, and you can’t afford more hours per day, I wouldn’t rush.
