If they can get the press to agree to their story of “what a terrible imposition this is upon us, the humble group that has given you all such joy and merriment over the years, although we were just a wee bit too careless and naive to notice this tiny indiscretion over the years” then it lets them frame themselves as being magnanimous when they finally agree to the name change.

   I think a lot of the press and the public would be more than happy to just bury all of this again as long as the circus keeps going. I see the “doing anything at all about this only harms the poor idols further” narrative being pushed and it makes me wonder how many people have any principles at all.
