  1. In regards to Hakodate: we stayed at Uminokaze (https://hakodate-uminokaze.com/en/) and there we had an onsen in our room. They also have public ones or you can reserve a private one. We also added on their breakfast option and it was delicious!!

We explored the morning market and red brick warehouse. That was nice to walk around.

We also had a really nice lunch at L’oiseau par Matsunaga (ロワゾー) | 函館のフレンチレストラン (http://www.r-loiseau.com/). The staff was wonderful and the wife of the Chef spoke English and was super helpful!

We also got ramen at Maido. Which was delicious (RAMEN MAIDO, Hakodate – Restaurant Reviews, Photos & Phone Number https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g298151-d9630345-Reviews-Ramen_Maido-Hakodate_Hokkaido.html)

  2. Dang, can I join?! Kidding. My sister is covered in tattoos, and when my sister an I went to Tsurunoyu they did not explicitly ban her from the onsen, but their faces made it quite clear she wasn’t welcome. I would imagine this can be true for any onsen in more rural areas or traditional settings. Some ryokan have private onsen that would be tattoo friendly, but not their public ones. Just google the onsen you’d like to go to and verify. There’s a few websites that have a list of tattoo-friendly onsen.

  3. The days you are in Nikko, there are festivals going on. You can do day trips to Nara or Uji while out in Osaka too.

Your trip sounds like a great time
