Public Transportation in Fujikawaguchi

My current itinerary has Fujikawaguchi on it and I want to hike up to Mt. Kurodake since Mt. Fuji trails won’t open up until after I leave Japan. I’m just having trouble figuring out the best way to get up to the trail I want to hike. The road leading to the trail doesn’t look like I can walk on it safely and I can’t find any signs or indications of a bus stop nearby. I want to start from the trail next to Tenka Chaya, 2739 Kawaguchi, 富士河口湖町 Fujikawaguchiko, Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi 401-0304, Japan.

Has anyone been to this trail or restaurant know if there is a bus stop nearby?

  1. There is one round-trip per day from Kawaguchiko station to Tenkachaya. And I mean one, it returns to Kawaguchiko station immediately after arriving at Tenkachaya.

    Time table (in Japanese): [https://bus.fujikyu.co.jp/rosen/detail/id/10/](https://bus.fujikyu.co.jp/rosen/detail/id/10/)

The bus to 三ツ峠入口 bus stop is much more frequent and you may be able to call a taxi from there (not sure).

  2. Just looking at Google maps, it suggest that there is a bus going there from Kawaguchiko station, takes about 30 min.

Then searching a bit, could find this page [https://bus.fujikyu.co.jp/rosen/detail/id/10](https://bus.fujikyu.co.jp/rosen/detail/id/10) but seems there would only be one bus a day in the morning. The bus stop is at Kenka Chaya.

  3. This person seems to have climbed it before, and they suggest starting at 三ツ峠入り口 (Mitsutoge-Iriguchi) where the buses are more frequent, every hour or so: https://hikinginjapan.com/2011/02/08/mt-kuro/

Copy and paste 三ツ峠入り口 into google maps it’ll show the departure board

  4. Haha okay, so, you want to cut out 300m elevation gain from your hike? Pff!

From the other responses, it sounds like you can very feasibly take the bus to Tenka Chaya in the morning, do your cheater hike, and then go back down either to Mitsutoge or directly down into town.

Here’s a blurb I wrote about finding trail maps:

    >When looking at trails, I use this app, which is unfortunately only in Japanese: [山と高原地図](https://www.mapple.co.jp/product/mountainmap/). Each map costs 500 JPY. With the help of google translate, it’s possible to figure out which map you need, but I’m sure people here can also point out which map you need. The maps themselves are also in Japanese, but trails/hike times are universal and dangerous areas are marked by a yellow !. [This is what it looks like](https://imgur.com/E5QV3NM); this picture is a paper copy, but the map is the same.

The map you’d want is #32 (Fuji area) and the detailed map is 三ツ峠山. You can post here or message me if you need help with it.

  5. What month are you planning on doing the hike? This probably doesn’t help much, but I just took a taxi to get to my hiking spot.
