Interview at High school

I have an interview at a high school tomorrow, a connection set it up for me so I don’t even know what the role is only for the English teaching department. My question is, should I go full suit despite the heat? Should I take anything with me that might help me succeed? It’s my first interview at a high school so I’m unsure about things, if anyone has any experience or tips I’d appreciate it

  1. I’d go in a suit and maybe seeing how the interviewer’s dressed, you can remove the suit jacket?

As for what to prepare, definitely have a demo lesson and learn a bit about the school before you go.

  2. You got this 💪🏻 I’m happy for everybody who can escape the fate of being an Eikaiwa teacher 🥲😂

  3. Go with dress shoes, dress pants, short-sleeved white dress shirt, and a tie with a tie clip. No need for a suit jacket or long-sleeved shirt in this weather. It’s coolbiz season. Get a haircut, brush your teeth, trim and clean your nails. Have a folder with a copy of your resume just in case. You can also bring some paper and a pen for notes. Put your phone on silent mode. Be polite and show an interest in the students, and you’re probably in.

  4. my wife works at a private high school in the office and says you don`t really need a jacket but a necktie is a must..

I`ve interviewed at a high school 2 times and never had to do a demo lesson but got the job both times..(once regretted getting it though)

    good luck

  5. It’s easier to over-prepare and cut things out later than it is to come unprepared or half-assed and try to wing your way through.

If you’re lucky they might ask you for just one demo lesson. If you’re unlucky you may be doing a demo for every period.

If you’re even unluckier one or more or those classes will be a special education class.

  6. “”Teaching”” huh? Interview is tomorrow? Unsure of what to do?

A little unprepared are we? It might not go so well then unless you can at least prepare the following:

    1. Full suit, but don’t wear the jacket until you get to the school
    2. Portfolio in a folder (sample lessons, self-made materials incl curricula and syllabi)
    3. Research into the school’s history, staff, perhaps even the position if you can find it anywhere — The first two will show you’ve done some research and are invested
    4. Demo lesson. Unless if they ask you on the spot to do one, you won’t just choke

  7. Full suit. But you get to remove the jacket once pleasantries are exchanged. I would carry it with you. Then put it on right before walking in.

It really makes a worlds of difference between how they perceive you. Especially if they are also considering someone else.

They won’t expect you to keep it on though, which is nice.
