In this series, we would like to get your opinions and tips regarding still popular, but not first choice destinations in Japan, including advice about sights to see, accommodation, restaurants and eateries, onsen experiences, public transport, hikes and other activities in the area.
Today we bring you one of the wettest places on Earth – [Yakushima](https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4650.html), a place with biome so rich that it inspired much of Hideo Miyazaki’s spirited away, a world away from bustling cities of mainland Japan, as well as a perfect place for honeymoon getaway.
Since many visitors ask about how many days are enough for a balanced experience on the island, we kindly ask you to share your own experiences.

I went for silver week years ago and absolutely loved it! I think this place is spectacular if you really enjoy hiking and/or if you’re on your 2nd or 3rd trip and ready for a challenge. I do wish someone had told me to bring medicine because I got car sick on those windy roads to the hiking paths, ha.
