In all my time here I’ve always either flown or just driven my car. My car is now in the shop and we’re heading to Nagoya for the weekend.
Is it better to buy Shinkansen tickets at the station or does it make more sense to do it online? According to Google maps we’ll be going through Tokyo station. Since we need to take the trains in to Tokyo first, I wanted to make sure to do this as time efficient as possible.
Thanks!

online through eki-net or smartex. some minimal discounts when buying them electronically / attached to your suica card instead of paper, plus more discount for buying some days/weeks in advance.
If you care about time efficiency the best part about SmartEx for me is rescheduling the ticket to an earlier (or later) time slot whenever I arrive at the platform
if you want convenient just buy online through eki-net, etc.
if you want cheap go to west entrance of shinjuku station, buy a voucher off the vendors along the street and exchange ticket at the green booth
Big fan of smart ex, easy to use, discounts, and just one card/phone for everything
金券ショップ offer big discounts on popular routes. You have to go to the counter and ask what they have available.
You can also buy them at local travel agents (or at least you can in Tokyo).
