worth it to switch to city gas?

about to move into a place that’s setup for propane, but we have the option to switch to city gas. it’s not free though, we need to spend around 30man to run lines and get a new stove.

at our old place we’re using between 25 and 35m^3 a month, but that’ll probably go up because we’re adding an oven and clothes dryer.

based on the cost sheet that we were given(which I had to sus the real numbers out of because they won’t just give them to you), if propane is much more than 375/m^3, city gas is cheaper month per month.

so, over a 15 year period which is what a lot of these propane contracts are for, if the propane is 2000 more a month it’s cheaper to just get city gas. plus from what I’ve been reading these 15 year propane contracts are kind of a trap where they raise rates later.

what would people here do in this situation?

  1. We’ve been on city gas for a long time. The 30man is a hurdle, sure, but if you’re going to be there for a while, why not. If we were moving, I’d try to stick with it.

We also run burners/oven, drier, and one smaller heater (kitchen) in the winter. (but water/boiler is kerosene)

  2. 1 cubic meter of propane gas will give you 1.8 times more energy, but will cost 3-3.5 times more per cubic meter. Plus a basic fee for propane gas contract will cost 500-700 yen more per month.

So if we are talking about 25-35 cubic meters of propane gas, then a similar amount of city gas would be 7-10 thousand yen cheaper per month. And considering that you want a gas powered dryer and oven, then 3-3.5 years of staying at same place will make me consider getting city gas constructed.
