I plan to move to japan after I graduate from college, should I continue with this?

Hey, I am a high schooler from Canada, and I plan to get a bachelors degree as a computer technician and then find a job in japan to live, my plan would be to graduate Highschool of course, apply for a college where they teach the course, I plan to work at a restaurant or some part time place while off school to save for backup, food, expenses, etc.

I plan to get a few years of experience from my Home first before moving just to save up enough money, and to get my life straight a little first.

in a little while I’m going to be taking Japanese classes and learning all I can before I do the big move. I’m a hard worker and my GPA is always around 4 or higher, I’ve researched all I can about the culture so far, how I should act and all the rules.

I know its not a place to be loud and stand out, that’s one reason why I plan to live, other than its a beautiful place, the culture, etc. I just want to live a quiet life and just live alone.

is there any tips on how I should go from now or add onto my plan, or is there anyone that should make me reconsider? any risks I should take note of from doing this?

this is the life I’ve been dreaming of for a long time, and I really want this to happen.

  2. Highly recommend visiting Japan first, ideally for a long-ish period of time, before making a plan to live there. Studying abroad in college is a good idea.

  3. Before you commit to graduating and moving to Japan, consider doing something like a study abroad program through your college.

  4. Your main risk is being really disappointed when your real life in Japan doesn’t match the image you have of it in your mind. You are focused on rules and how you should act, etc and that’s all such a minor part of everything.

You should spend some time in Japan, preferably something like a semester abroad when you are in university, to get a feel for what daily life is actually like. It may be a lot different from what you imagine.

  5. What bachelors degree do you need to become a ‘computer technician’? If by college you mean a technical college then sure they teach you to fix computers, but then again its most likely not a bachelors degree. And thats a hard requirement for a japanese visa

  6. To get a job in japan I. Computer you need to be about fluent. You should do jet first and live there a year to see what you think and learn for Japanese first.

  7. 90% of the people who want to move to Japan romanticize it because of anime or some weird image they have in their head. You wouldn’t move to Mexico because you like tacos and that movie “Remember me”.. or maybe you would.. Living and working in Japan is way different than visiting Japan, which is way different than whatever weird image you have. Personally, I think visiting Japan is awesome.. living and working here, takes a special kinda person. You have no idea the level of horseshit Japan can put you through. With that being said, I personally like it. A lot don’t though.

  8. Hey fellow Canuck. As the English say, experience is the best teacher. You should visit here first during Summer breaks. If that option is out of your pocket, check to see if your future University has an exchange program with any Japanese institutions, so you can apply to do one. Get a feel of the experience and figure out if it’s something you still want to do by that time.

  9. Sorry, I’m not sure why a Japanese company would go through the trouble of hiring a Canadian for a computer technician role? Maybe software engineering would be a safer option.
