At what point in your Japanese Studies, were you like “I am able to hold a decent conversation now”?

So, most of the time, speaking is the most difficult when you’re learning from books like Genki, and so on. Once you grasp everything and understand it, and try to speak, it is obviously difficult at first. However, at what point were you thinking, ‘Man, I can hold a decent convo now,’ and actually be able to use what you learned in everyday talk?
