HomeResidents in JapanI was just at my local AEON.. alcoholic beverage corner and there was a massive line of Vietnamese and Chinese buying up Yamazaki 12 year whisky.
They Keep the whisky behind the counter and you have to ASK for it in PERSON as it’s not on display. Hope some of you manage to get your hands on a bottle of it!
Yep, they’ll do that.
To resell back home or put on auction. At my 7/11, customers come in the middle of the night to buy the full set of our Ichiban Kuji depending on the characters/series as soon as it has arrived. The worst was K-on a few years ago. You know what it means when a single customers buys the same products by sets of 10-20 items. Same for certain brands of cosmetics btw, there are even gangs specialized in the mass shoplifting of such products. I saw them (on security cam) infiltrate the store by the back door reserved for employees in a drug store I was working at as a temp worker. Took 500.000 yens worth of cosmetics.

They’re worth x 4-5 outside of Japan
Yeah good thing i ain’t interested in such things. Who knows if I’d be thinking of when I’m getting that precious bottle😄
Ah dammit they’re at it again? Ffs
Damn I wish I could get one or two of yamazaki 12 at that price :,(
Oh wow is it that much in demand? I’m going to go buy one these few days. I just passed Aeon in some not so big city hopefully with no other Chinese except me
Wife is Korean and insisted we buy one (this was 2015) so we got one 🤷♂️
FYI to those concerned, each month usually around the 1st to the 3rd or so local shops, and chains get a little supply of Yamazaki 12 or Hibiki Japanese Harmony (blenders is easy to come by)
So if you hunt, that’s the best timing.
Better you make friends with you local booze shop and have him call you when a bottle comes in, at least my local shop does that for me if I ask politely.
They do realize continuous reselling is technically illegal without a license? I guess they don’t tell the tax man.
AEON? Psh. I’d rather go to OK, get a couple tall cans of random alcohol, a baguette, a triangle of brie, a couple blocks of other cheese, and some chocolate. Heck, throw in a can of smoked sardines. All that for about 2000 yen. Ah, the benefits of not having the keep-up-with-the-Joneses, I’m-not-poor-like-my-parents mentality.
I bought a yamazaki 12 years single malt in late June for ~30,000¥ (donki hotte). Did I get ripped off ? 🤡
Yamazaki and Hibiki weren’t to be going in Kichijoji last week. Had to settle for Fujisanroku as omiyage for the folks back home. Even that was ¥4,500 at Donkey.
My taste pallets are so shit I can’t fathom buying this over the 500 JPY bottles of Suntory whiskey from Family Mart.
Yep resell in Australia is about $350-$400 atm
Oh good, this was one of the first signs that the market was bouncing back last time!
