Hi all I posted [this thread a while ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/movingtojapan/comments/15rgol1/looking_for_advice_thoughts_on_my_situation/).
Since then I recently recieved a job offer for \~11M yen with relocation assistence. I’ve also dropped the idea of doing a sabbitical as I feel like I’d rather do something more permanent if Im going to make the move.
A brief refresher is that my current salary is around \~20M yen. I also have stock options granted by my company each year worth an additional \~10M with the chance of it going up in the future. My current job has a very good work life balance, enjoyable collleagues, nice perks, and even will let me work from Japan a few weeks each year.
All that said, theres no pathway for me to permantely live in Japan with my current job, and thats something I feel like I really want to try at some point in my life.

This leaves me with 2 options
1. Accept the \~11M yen offer, move to Japan see how it goes. If its horrible I could probably move back to Australia with an okay chance at getting my current job back (allthough with my tail a bit between my legs).
2. Decline the position, and continue to earn more money in my current job (with more potential upside of stock options), while really focusing on my Japanese level (currently \~N4). Then reconsider a move in a few years (when I’m around 30)

An added benefit of making the move to Japan now would be a quicker path to PR. I would have the nessecary points to fast-track a 1year PR application. If I were to receive PR I would potentially then be able to shift to a higher-earning job in Japan (e.g. remote contracting) as I wouldn’t be reliant on a company-sponsered visa. But I could also equally go down this path at a later stage in my life (+ there’s always a small chance that my current job somehow enables me to live in Japan even if it’s a 0.1% chance)
Each year in Japan I would probably be able to save \~4M yen, vs. in my current role where I could save \~14M a year (including the value of options, tax, rough estiamtes of col).
I got a lot of great advice in the last thread, mostly telling me I’m stupid for even considering jumping to a job where my salary would be decreased so much. But at the same time, I feel like life on \~11M yen probably would still be pretty good, at a certain point money becomes less important?
I’m going to accept or decline the offer in the next couple of weeks, keen to hear any final thoughts of wisdom, advice, or passing comments.
Thanks all

At face value I would go with option 2, Japan is way more fun if you speak the language

Have you discussed with your current employer the possibility of using an Employer of Record service to ‘hire’ you in Japan and allow you live and work from there?
