Went to Destruction last night. Some takeaways

– First off, great show to watch live although admittedly was pretty bored until the KOPW match.

– 90-95% of the merch I saw was LIJ or Naito. Saw a couple of Tsuji shirts which was nice. I was the only one supporting Despy that I could see. I probably should have looked closer at the card to see he wasn’t on it…

– The crowd was pretty luke warm for pretty much anything other than Naito or HoT or the main event. Anyone still peddling the suggestion that Naito isn’t over is a fool.

– Watching live I really had no clue the Nobu turn was coming. Usually watching on TV I can telegraph a turn due to how they’re acting but live it was a complete shock. I had goosebumps and everyone around me seemed just as shocked. Was a great moment that will stick with me for sure.

– Man I gotta say, despite not being a HoT fan, it was fun watching them live. The KOPW match was where it started to get interesting and the hate HoT was getting after the turn was huge. There was a fan that was going irate nearby during the closer (unsure if it came across on tv but would be surprised if not). Everyone was watching him and laughing. He really really hated EVIL haha. Also SHO hamming it up the whole time was great fun.

– Pretty much everyone used the tag title match as their toilet break (myself included). Kind of a shame as it ended up being one of the best matches of the night but I guess people didn’t care too much for Bishamon or TMDK.

– On that note, Zack didn’t seem nearly as over as I thought. Was pretty disappointed at his non-reaction from the crowd.

– The main event was fire and while people were into the Naito match, they were INTO this one. Will is definitely over in Japan but I’d say support was split, maybe even in favour of Tsuji. The crowd really wanted him to win. I think this is my first time seeing Will live and I’ll admit I wasn’t a huge fan of his before (despite also being English). However this was a super special match and quite possibly the best match I’ve watched live. I was already a Tsuji fan but I think after this match it’s clear why he’s been in two big show main events already and the other musketeers haven’t. He’s ahead of them by a decent margin imo.

– The post show moment with Zack was super fun. The crowd really liked it (although only half stayed for it).

– All in all very glad I went. The turn and the main event made it worth it. Otherwise was just a decent show to watch live. Great seats for buying last minute at the gate too.

  1. >Anyone still peddling the suggestion that Naito isn’t over is a fool.

    Literally who has said this?

  2. I agree with the bathroom break people. I just have never really gotten into Bishamon much. Probably bc ive always thought Yoshihashi is as bland as watching grass grow. Such a shame bc Goto was so good in that 2016/2017 era, almost poised for main event stardom.

  3. Wasn’t there a guy making alert sfx while EVIL was talking, and EVIL told him to ‘shut your ass up’

  4. I am watching Will Ospreay v Yota Tsuji right now and wow…what a fucking match, these guys have incredible chemistry. The sequences in this match are absolutely phenomenal.
