I was at Comic con and there was a stall for the Japanese embassy.
I spoke with the 2 people there in Japanese and I didn’t get the classic “Nihongo Jouzu”, instead they actually spoke with me.
Im aprox N4 level and I struggled to remember some words but they didn’t seem to mind.
Is this a good sign?

That’s a great sign! Most Japanese people that I’ve spoken to are just happy that you’re making the effort to learn the language in the first place so I wouldn’t feel too pressured when you get the chance to practice.
Way better than my first time. My first conversation in Japanese was with a (french speaking) friend and 2 exchange students from Japan he knew, who were buying clothes at the uni’s coop. All I said was “こんにちは”, “かわいい” and “きょつけて”, and my friend barely said more than I did. Was akward as fuck.
おめでとうございます.
What was the conversation?
My japanese still sucks but 100% of the japanese people I’ve spoken to were really patient. So far I’ve only had good experiences
What does “nihongo jouzo” mean?
My Japanese friend has 3 kids and I made the mistake of practicing with her in front of them… now every time I come visit the kids quiz me on vocabulary and find it hilarious… Well done you, though!
