Applying for water – Problem filling location details

I’m preparing to relocate to Japan in mid-August. I was able to make a contract to rent an apartment. And I was told to apply for water at the earliest.

I’m trying to apply through the website [waterworks.metro.tokyo.lg.jp](https://suidonet.waterworks.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/inet-service/uketsuke/main_english) which is available in English.

I’m stuck on the part where I have to fill in the location details.

Let’s say the address to my apartment is 東京都世⽥⾕区鎌⽥ 5−4−3

And the postal code is 157-0077

I understand that 5 is the chome, 4 is the city block number, 3 is the building number, and it is located in Setagaya City.

But the form requires me to fill the following fields:

* Neighborhood (machi and oaza) (Required)
* Street (aza and chome)
* House number (banchi and gosu, entry example: 4-5)
* Building number

I appreciate it if someone could show me what to fill in those fields.

Isn’t the house number and building number the same?

  1. I believe that the [Wikipedia article on Japanese address system](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_addressing_system#Address_order) is pretty decent to understand what and where you need to put when filling the form in.

    Let’s take a real address of a random residential building as an example:

    〒114-0023 東京都北区滝野川7丁目24−1 パークアクシス板橋

    北区 (Kita-ku) – “ward name”

    滝野川 (Takinogawa) goes for “neighborhood”

    7丁目 (7-chome) – for, to no surprise, “chome”

    24-1 – “block and house number”

    パークアクシス板橋 (Park Axis Itabashi) – is the actual building name (in case there is one), otherwise just “1” would do.
