Docomo Hikari 10gbs issues

Today, I upgraded from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps internet, but after a 2-hour wait for activation, I was surprised to see the maximum speed at 900 Mbps. I connected my PC with a Cat 6 cable to LAN port 4 (the only 10 Gbps one). My network card can only go up to 2.5 GHz. I have a Mac with Wi-Fi 6, but it doesn’t go beyond 600 Mbps. I called customer service, and it seemed like they didn’t understand the issue. They told me Wi-Fi 6 maxes out at 600 Mbps and suggested GMO might not have activated the network yet. None of my devices, including PC, Steam Deck, iPhone 12, Mac M1 Air, Samsung S10+, and Samsung S9, exceed 800 Mbps. It’s the same speed I had with 1 Gbps. Has this happened to you? If so, how did you resolve it?

  1. did they swap your onu/home gateway during those two hours?

    1. service is best effort
    2. what service are you testing with where you expect to get 10 (or 2.5) gbps?

for (2) i would only expect Google or similar locally peered thing to reach anywhere near your Ethernet maximum.

i suspect if you try to “report” this issue to docomo they will politely tell you to pound sand.

  2. You probably only have a 1Gbps port on you pc. It would be very rare for anything but a server to have a 10Gbps NIC.

  3. You should check whether the router supports 2.5 GbE. It is a weird standard which did not exist a few years ago.
