Which HSP category I should apply for in engineer visa

Hello all,

I am in Japan and I works as a software engineer and currently holds engineer visa.

I am looking to change it to HSP-I visa.
So I have below queries;
1. I should be applying for HSP-I b category. Is it correct?
2..What document I need to ask from my company and what I should prepare to submit to immigration office. I tried to Google it and find the information, but it was quiet confusion.

So looking for the expert advice.

Thank you.

  1. 1. Are you planning on bringing over family to care for children or a housekeeper?

    2. If the answer to that is no you absolutely should not change your visa to the HSFP since you already have an engineering status of residence.

    The HSFP is tied to your employer since your work/salary were part of the qualification process. Your engineering SOR is not. If you change jobs after switching to the HSFP you have to reapply (admittedly easy enough). You get all the benefits of the HSFP (such as fast track PR) without having to hold the visa, just proving you met them for the previous 1 or 3 years (depending on how many points they qualify you for) except for the ability to bring over family or household help.

  2. I got a (I)(b) for software engineering. It’s tied to your employer though and you get a designation slip in addition to your visa that says who you work for I don’t think you can self apply
