What is a suitable location to take someone to assist them in learning how to ride a bicycle?

I know I’m asking a silly question but I’m fairly new in Japanese society. Will it offend people in general if we go to a park and start the riding lessons? Because I want to ensure that the learner doesn’t get hurt by coming into contact with the rough road surface.

  1. I don’t think finding a flat piece of ground near your home or in a park nearby will offend anyone.

Just check for no cycling signs.

  2. Some parks have tracks for children to learn to bike. Sometimes it’s not only children.

I’ve seen parents teach their tots along a path in random parks too, just be around to supervise.

  3. If it were me, I’d do it in Shōwa Kinen Kōen – there are plenty of spots to practice and I think they have over 2,000 bicycles to rent.

  4. Most any park should be fine.

If the bike has removable pedals, then remove the pedals and drop the seat a bit, then they can get used to coasting on it, especially if you have some slight downhills. Once they have the balance down, restore things to normal and magically they’ll be able to ride.

Don’t forget to use a helmet.
