I have an upcoming trip to Japan and had previously learned about the Visit Japan Web site for filling out your personal details, disembarkation card, and customs form. I had initially signed up for the site through my browser on desktop, then ended up switching to mobile since it needed access to a camera to capture my passport photo.
As I’m getting closer to my trip, I was going to double check my information, but was then greeted with a message on the login screen of the website warning about a “suspicious app” that had appeared, which I had in fact downloaded via mobile Chrome’s “Install App” recommendation on the official site (which it seems to still let you do, despite the app not appearing on the Play Store).
Following the message’s advice, I’ve since enabled their 2FA and changed my password, but am still concerned about the whole incident. Has anyone else had experience with this apparently fake app, and is there anything else I should be doing?
