Amazon Japan international availability

Has anyone else noticed anything weird going on with Amazon Japan? Since like 2-3 ago random products sold directly by Amazon are supposedly not deliverable to my german address.

I’ve ordered there tons of times for the past 4 years and I don’t remember ever having problems ordering anything sold by or for that matter even just being shipped by Amazon.

A few days ago I was on the fence about pre-ordering a Fire Emblem figure and I know for a fact that it would have worked then, because I was staring at the “Place your order” button for a long ass time. Now all of a sudden it (and like half of my wishlist, had to check) apparently can’t be shipped to my adress.

What gives?

  1. Too many oversea orders and not enough workers to pick and pack. So they are limited items oversea addresses can order. Also a lot oversea customers are claiming issue with their orders, so this is a way for them to control orders without outright stopping them.

It’s been ongoing for the last 2 years

  2. The Japanese post office has suspended the “small package” option, so shipping overseas is now drastically more expensive. No idea when this will return (it was removed during covid), but doesn’t look like any time soon. Coupled with this is a convoluted online system for sending packages, which is also a deterrent.

  3. It just depends on what it is and whether the seller is Amazon or a third-party merchant. I sometimes have the same problem when I try to order from US Amazon for shipping to Japan. Not all items are available for international shipping.
