Am I screwed or would I be able to get some sort of visa?, been doing the daily grind at home and just want to get away for a year and do a snow job in Japan for the season and then backpack home to Australia.

From the Embassy of Japan in Australia’s website:
“An applicant must be aged between 18-30 (until the day you turn 31) at the time of the application and must never have previously obtained a Japanese Working Holiday Visa.”
I have the same problem. My country since this year has working holiday visa for Japan but I’m already 34. Maybe you can go with a student visa but you must change your plans because there is a working hours limit (I can’t remember if it was 28hs a week or something like that) and I guess you need to study something (language maybe?).

[Directly from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website](https://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/w_holiday/index.html#:~:text=Being%20between%2018%20and%2030,of%20age%20to%2030%20years.): Japan only offers working holiday visas for people ages 18-25. Can be extended with a government waiver to someone up to age 30 at the time of application. Sorry, but you won’t be able to qualify for a working holiday visa.
