Are Individual Train Fares Increasing after Oct 1, ’23?

I’ve of course seen that the JR pass will increase, but do we know if individual fares will too? If so, but how much?

  1. The Tokyo train and subway fares went up by Â¥10 earlier this year, doubt there’ll be another increase soon.

  2. Any fare increases are written on every company’s site in bold letters.

There aren’t any for the big companies, but who knows if a small company will increase fares, you should look up the ones you use on a daily basis.

JR Pass price increase isn’t really related to normal JR Fares, they just saw that with the insane increase of tourists and the shitty yen, they could easily make more money for essentially free.

  3. JR Kyushu has announced a few increases–notably, their limited express trains (inter-city) are getting fare increases by 500 yen. They’ve also announced a discontinuation of some discount fares, though the English and Japanese announcements say completely different things, so we’ll see which happens come October 1st.
