My wife insists that watermelons will grow in my belly if I don’t spit out the pits. Does that count?
Literally
“That humidity patch looks like a dragon” “It must be because the spirit of a dragon dwells in here”
I live in the countryside, mind you. lol. They really believe it.
Hanako the ghost hiding in the toilets
If you understand Japanese, there are plenty of occult, ghost story-telling, haunted location adventuring YouTubers. Search for terms like 怪談, 心霊スポット etc
One channel I enjoy listening to while I work is 島田秀平のお怪談巡り and stories from this guy called ヤースー whose grandma was a ユタ(kind of like an Okinawa shaman)
My mother in law went to Aomori to „talk“ to her own mother and grandmother (they passed already) through Itako. Itako are spiritual mediums who communicate with the dead.
A few years ago, a highschooler I was teaching English to told me about a local ghost story (around Shibuya area maybe?). There was a dark tunnel and you couldn’t stop while moving through it, if you did the ghost of a woman would drop down from the ceiling and kill you. The student told me the name and I looked it up later but I’ve forgotten now unfortunately.
This one Halloween in Shibuya actual demons came in and ate people. They had to send in a secret group of clandestine operatives to clean it all up.
