What to do with an unneeded Wi-Fi router

Hi! I just decided to cancel my au home Wi-Fi. I bought the router outright from AU for about 4万円 a few months back, and they said it can’t be returned…
Do you reckon it’s worth trying to sell it online or just to hardoff or anything? Any advice? Thanks!

  1. If this is a pocket wifi and you’ve paid it off and is unlocked you can make back some money. If this is a home router expect to get limited money back.

  2. What model is it? for 4万 it better be something really nice? But yeah depends on model… You should post details here. Also check the closed auctions on yahoo to get an idea how much people are willing to pay for it.

Is it this thing? https://www.au.com/pr/home-router/ If it’s anything like the docomo 5G offering, it cannot be used with any other provider *and* you cannot transfer a new contract into it or use it with a generic au/mvno sim card… So probably… very worthless.. Much like Docomo Home 5G, Softbank Airs, etc.

  3. **EMPEROR’S BOWELS!** 40,000 for a router? Is it gold-plated or something?

The SOHO one I replaced the piece of shit that they gave us for free only cost about half that, and most of the features I’ll never use anyway.

You could try selling it on Mercari, I suppose.

If you’re getting Internet again, you might be able to reuse it, or use it as an access point or something upstairs.

  4. Just put it on Mercari. Perhaps someone in a similar circumstance as you would buy it

  5. Use it as a paperweight.

You can’t even transfer it to someone else who want to make a contract with au, they have to buy (or rent) a new unit.

You paid for something that you can’t even use as a mobile wifi because au and softbank found a loophole in the law that forces providers to remove the sim lock on hardware when the contract ends.
