Hi! I’ve been living and studying in Japan for a year now, I’ve got my JLPT, my TOEIC and did a part time job for a while, and with all this I was ready to start looking for a proper job, to get my visa and start being a proper adult (since it would be my first full time job).
I’ve looked through thousands of websites and ads looking for decent offers but I came back pretty demoralised.
My main interest is teaching [not as a Plan B, this was my goal from the start] , but every single job offer I come upon and look up on websites like Glassdoor end up having terrible scores and reviews… I don’t know if it’s normal or if there really are only “bad schools” currently hiring in Tokyo (which sounds insane but).
I tried also looking for offers regarding tourism, which I thought I might be fit for since I like interacting with people and also speak 3 languages (which might not be much, but it’s all I have 🥲) and I thought it might be a somehow a useful skill in that field..
I’m 25, my degree is in Japanese language, I’m not a native English speaker (but I got a good TOEIC score), and I have a master degree in education [for my native language].
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you in advance 🙏

If you’re looking for a “proper job” as part of being a “proper adult”, you will want to be a “real” teacher, and not just an ALT (assistant language teacher) – which isn’t really teaching, and does not pay a living wage; and is probably most of the listings that you see.
One of the requirements for that, is to first get a teaching license/qualification in your home country, and clock few years of teaching experience there. Doing so will give you a chance of getting a real teaching job if you can make the right connections here.
