How long does it take for your My Number notification (tsuchi card)?

I registered to my ward a month and 1 week ago but I still haven’t gotten anything in the mail. I even went to the ward to ask and they said just wait.

Everybody keeps saying it usually takes 3 weeks, but it’s already been 5 weeks for me. Has it taken this long for you guys or is it just me?

EDIT: apparently its not the tsuchi card I’m asking about, it is the application letter for the MyNumber card that has the QR code on it that I’m asking about

  1. Only tangentially related to your question and maybe this depends on the city you’re in, but I was able to go visit the local “My Number Card Center” (not the same as city hall) and they helped me with the card application without needing a 通知カード at all

  2. FYI, that tsuchi card is worth nothing these days, you better apply for the plastic card soon. If you just want to know your mynumber, you can just print your juminhyou in the city hall and ask for mynumber to be printed also.

  3. I don’t think they do the tsuchi card anymore.

If you need to give proof of your MyNumber now (for work or for financial institutions), you need to either print a juminhyou or apply for a plastic MyNumber card.

  4. I recently renewed my card using the website, it took them about 2 weeks to make the card and send it to my city, and then another 2-3 weeks for the city to send me a notification to come pick it up.

  5. For new born Japanese nationals it took around 2-3 weeks.

No idea about new foreign residents or returning Japanese nationals who happened to be outside the country since 2015.

I guess mileage may vary for each municipality too so it’s difficult to say. Maybe consult your municipality office?

  6. Got mine on Monday after a 7-week wait. Tokyo region. Got my actual card at City Hall the next day, which was nice and quick.
