Hello everyone, I am resident in Tokyo for the next six months. I would need a SIM with voice and data for this short period but I don’t want to rely on operators like Sakura mobile etc. I was considering Linemo but I can’t understand from their site if it is possible to get a SIM without a long-term contract, a year for example. Can anyone who uses it tell me if they are happy with it (particularly if there is good reception in Tokyo) and if I can cancel the subscription whenever I want? I am also open to suggestions on other phone carriers.

I’ve been quite satisfied with HIS Mobile. It’s all in Japanese, but I’ve never had a problem with it, and it’s dirt cheap. No contract necessary, but you do need some documentation to sign up.

An easy to get voice and data sim card (or esim) is with Povo. You can sign up and then cancel when needed through their app.
I wasn’t under the impression that LINEMO was as a year long contract when I signed up. I’m not going to be here for a full year at least anyway.
There’s a page on their portal where you request cancellation when you’re done with it I believe.
Google translate on their support page though will probably say for sure.
Most carriers don’t have any cancellation fee so you should be fine with linemo. They use softbank network so it’s pretty fast and reliable. I think linemo is doing a cash back campaign where they give back paypay points up to 6 months so you basically can use it for free.
Sometimes you get shadow banned from a provider because you terminate the contract to quickly(like a month after signing up) but there are many providers so that’s a non problem.
