Hi there
I’m currently in the process of applying for a working holiday visa and have a few questions I think it’s probably important to note that I’m a British citizen.
1. I’m currently working in order to save up a sum of money for upon arrival in Japan while I get to where I’m going to be working etc yet don’t have that money yet the website states they need bank statements immediately which aren’t going to show the money needed ?
2. It says that you can’t work in bars nightclubs etc I intend to go to niseko for the ski season so would be primarily interested in bar work ?
3. It says it’s not intended for those who choose to primarily work I don’t I want to work to fund my ski season but don’t want to be working too much and break the rules
Any advice would be great
🙂

If you don’t have the money + flights (there and back) booked or money, you won’t be accepted. You need 3 months of bank statements to show that you aren’t just taking a loan or being given the money temporarily. If by the time you apply, you meet the criteria it should be fine.
I wouldn’t apply if you don’t even meet the financial requirements as that’s an easy way to have your application rejected immediately.
You won’t be doing bar work as it’s explicitly stated to be against the terms of the visa.
I haven’t done a working holiday but from friends who I know who worked at Yuzawa, you essentially work 8 hours a day, 5/6 days a week for minimum wage with living expenses covered and free skiing. The typical day of my friend would be to wake up, work 3-4 hours in the morning. Go skiing in the afternoon and work again in the afternoon/evening for another 4-5 hours.
Personally, if you’re struggling to reach the relatively low financial entry point of £1500, I’d reconsider or do a lot more research into this as you won’t be earning much frankly. The “high” end of pay is around £7 an hour and I believe you still have to pay health insurance. So you’re really not making much to save up if you intend on travelling Japan further when the season ends.
I had considered doing a season in the past but the economics are rough, you’re basically working for free 8 hours a day to be able to ski for an hour or two each day.
