Tokyo to LAX one way any date how is it possible United, AA, Delta can be 4-5x cheaper than JAL and ANA? Economy is almost what business class fares typically cost. How are they selling any tickets? I don’t get it.
Edit: At this moment the least expensive one-way flight as far as I can see from next week to any date well into 2024 on ANA or JAL to LAX is 248,000 yen.

Demand is simply very high, the domestic market prefers flying with ANA and JAL. Add in frequent flyer/credit card points and allocations to package tour operators, most passengers are not paying the ticket price on the website.
The answer is to fly delta — the difference in economy is not that great. I find the food on Japanese airlines to pretty bland and would prefer just about anything else.
Yah, using Asiana instead of ANA for now.
Tourism to Japan is insanely high rn.
Also, ANA prices are super cheap if you have a round trip where you spend under 14 days here. Not so useful if you already live in Japan tho, lol
JAL & ANA are a scam
Little known fact: Singapore Airlines operates a Tokyo-LAX flight as a fifth freedom route, which is generally pretty reasonably priced.
For example, a one way economy from NRT to LAX in December is currently going for USD 600, premium economy for $1400 and business for $2500.
Apart from that I prefer anything except delta/american/united absolutely terrible carriers. Rather go ana/jal/etihad/singapore/emirites/qatar. Way better by miles.
Cathay not sure nowadays also Swiss not sure now but they use to be really great too.
There is more to the price than just a seat. The non American fleets are way better at customer service from get go.
4x-5x? That seems a bit extreme. I’ve actually been looking at TYO-LAX flights for a potential business trip. Yes, Japanese carriers are more expensive but nothing that would deter me (or my company) from paying that extra amount for the mileage program and better service
ZipAir, JAL’s budget long-haul carrier, has flights from Tokyo to LA for around $400 one way
