Work Benefit Discrimination?

Employer is saying that if my wife is earning more than me, then I am not entitled to a housing allowance. They also want me to give them her payslip.

Isn’t this discriminatory?

  1. Are you sure you understood well ? Allowances are given to the partner with dependent. If they are registered to your wife she can claim allowance to her employer but you won’t be able to do it too.

  2. Whose name is on the housing contract?

If it’s yours (and yours only), show them the contract and ask for the allowance. If it’s your wife’s name, then you don’t really have an apartment to get an allowance for.

At my workplace, the allowance was for people who rented, and you had to submit the contract for confirmation. And if you’d bought your own place, guess what–no housing allowance. Is that discriminatory?
