EV charger suggestions

Hi everyone,

I ended up buying an EV (Ioniq5) to make use of the government subsidies and I’m now looking for advice on chargers to use.

The options that are available are:

– new charger from Hyundai (200v 16a): 93,000 yen comes with a 1 year warranty but seems very basic and expensive.

– new charger sold on Amazon Khons (200v 16a): 34,580 has some additional functionality (timer / monitor to see charging level etc.)

– second hand leaf chargers on Mercari (200v 15a): 18,000-20,000

Obviously Mercari comes with risks about the quality of the charger but they are all official Nissan products so they appear reasonable.

Amazon options on the face look good but I worry about the mix of reviews and if the products are actually made for the Japan market.

Official product just looks way over priced when compared to new products on Amazon. Also new products for leaf on Rakuten are about 60,000 yen.

If you’ve had any experience with an EV in Japan and can recommend a good charger I would really appreciate the advice.

Thank you!

  1. Don’t be stingy when it comes to buying things that can potentially set our house on fire or kill you.

Buy new and from a reputable source.

  2. Man I love that car rented it on Anyca 20+ times, as soon as I buy a house I’m getting one. Love to hear what’s it’s like as a day to day.

  3. Have you had an electrician come to install the outlet for charging? When I bought my cable from Nissan it cost about ¥90,000 as well but that included all of the maintenance fees to install the power outlet on the exterior of my house.
