Hey there recently moved to Tokyo 3 months ago. My college best friend (He’s from Japan) is having his first child and I want to get them a gift. Is there a traditional gift that Japanese give to a couple in celebration for their pregnancy? For context I live I. Akasaka area. I’m hoping to get this gift in the next few days.
Thanks in advanced!

Welp it’s always nice to just send them diapers because babies really just burn through them. There’s really no need to give them something traditional
Top floor of Sanno hospital there’s a little shop. They sell small cotton bathrobes thingies for babies that are awesome for the first few weeks/months. Also have “Sophie” the giraffe which is the teething favourite.
My go to for baby gifts are Bamboo ベビータオルラップ.
Better than cotton and prevents mold, mildew. Also very allergy friendly, A lot of people have skin problems and bamboo sheets/clothes doesn’t irritate the skin.
Buy it from almost any department store or amazon. They aren’t that expensive but you can get brand version that will set you back.
Traditional gift would probably be celebration money. For a newborn, you can never have enough diapers and baby blankets
Something (anything) from MIKI HOUSE.
Maybe start with a colorful terrycloth baby rattle(s) that could be a package topper on a boxed gift set of baby items (various things like a bib, socks, towel, rattle, baby washcloths, sold as a boxed set). Or a baby floor gym (Disney or San Rio).
If you visit the parents in the hospital you could bring a presentation melon.
