Hey everybody, I just moved into a sharehouse in Toshima. We have some shower rooms and toilet rooms. None of them come with a wash basin, except the tiny one above the toilet. Am I supposed to brush my teeth there? Or do japanese people do all of their stuff while showering? Like, what about just washing your face or removing makeup. I feel so dumb for asking this but I’m genuinely confused right now man

I’ve never seen a place without a wash basin here. But I guess you could use your kitchen sink as the second best option?
Ya need a new sharehouse
That is weird. In my experience with sharehouses wash basins are either in a dedicated room or in the common area. I’ve never seen a house with no wash basin. I would start looking for another sharehouse.
Honestly, that’s a really weird place. Usually there is a sink somewhere, either in the bathroom or close to a toilet.
If the sharehouse is a converted regular house, it’s possible the sink’s in someone else’s room, I guess. Like other people commenting here, I’m surprised to hear of a living place these days without some sort of sink. However, my first place in Japan, now that I remember, had only a sink in the kitchen; however, that place did not have a bath and had only a squat toilet. I live there more than 30 years ago. All three places I’ve lived since have had multiple sinks.
When I lived in a sharehouse, my room had a tiny sink/mirror. What an odd house! Have you asked your housemates what they do?
Assuming you have the obligatory Japanese shower mirror, you could remove your makeup there. Maybe buy a small basin/bucket so you don’t have to remove your clothes or get wet?
Ask your landlord. If they don’t then I’d highly recommend looking for a new share house.
The sink is usually in front of the shower room somewhere
I don’t think this is a “do Japanese people” question. It is a why is my share house so shit question.
The big sink on the floor. Whirlpool action.
…There’s generally a vanity with a sink and mirror in the laundry room, usually outside the shower. In the same place as your boiler and washing machine. Your share house sounds terrible.
The bathroom doesn’t have a sink?
That place sounds like it’s not fit for human habitation 🙁
Maybe they use the sento down the street
Are you sure there is no wash basin somewhere in a hallway? It’s pretty common for sharehouses to have one basin that is in none of the shower or toilet rooms. You also don’t have a sink in your room but like … in your closet or something?
Like if it’s a multistory building there might be a basin on just one floor (though that sucks for various reasons…). Given how offices are required to have sinks I’d be surprised if your share house could get away with renting some place with no basin at all
Are there other people in the sharehouse? If so, you could try asking them.
