Why did BAKE Cheese Tarts close in Shinjuku Station

The last few times I traveled to Tokyo, one of the main events was getting the cheese tarts at BAKE in Shinjuku station, but when I went there this time, I read online that this location had closed permanently. Does anyone know why? It didn’t seem like they weren’t doing great, used to be sold out by the end of the day. Please tell me they are opening a big store close-by instead!

  1. You may also want to try asking in /r/Tokyo.

  2. They are doing great worldwide! the reason for a branch closure is rarely disclosed to the public, but I doubt its a negative thing. They have opened new branches in Japan and abroad AND also an online store. Maybe you can just order the cheese tarts directly instead

  3. Probably excessive rents. When landlords see a business do well, next time there’s a renewal they feel they deserve to wet their beak in the business owners success. Just like the white suited Don in The Godfather II.
