  1. Is there any way to apply for the lump sum pension withdrawal before leaving Japan? Or does it 100% have to be done from your home country?

  2. There is a paper with text written by hand in a building where I’ve moved in. It says that I can throw carton only on the third Sunday of a month. But the other, more official (printed) paper says that such things as paper are collected on Tuesday. So what should I do? I have a lot of carton after moving in and even folded it takes a lot of space

Ps. No, I cannot ask neighbors

  3. Why are there so may people (student in particular) use ill-fitting backpacks?

I always see students carry their backpacks on their back past their bums.
Bags bigger than their toros and loaded, too.

  4. Is there any reason why my AC keeps resetting its position? I get ready for work in the morning at a table and like the AC pointed down at me with light airflow and set it on the remote to do so. But I’ve been noticing it keeps resetting its position upwards after a few minutes by itself and I can’t figure out why lol. Remote still says it’s set to point down.

  5. Hi, I’m trying to get a Lump-Sum Withdrawal Payment because I’m leaving Japan but it seems like they are asking for documents to confirm my bank account. Does it have to be my Japanese bank account ? Or do I have to ask my foreign bank to make those documents and then translate it to Japanese ?

  6. I need someone to teach me step-by-step how to line dry my clothes (yes I am American, yes I really have never done this before)

I have some movable pieces attached to my balcony wall which I think are for line drying but I can’t really tell how I’m supposed to use them. Can I just buy a pole at Daiso, lay it down and then hang my clothes with clothes hangers?

  7. 15 threads of single answer questions posted since this thread was posted…most with zero replies.

Mods, y’all awake? Why not post a warning with a link to this thread?

(Or delete the “stupid” part, since everyone thinks their question isn’t “stupid”)

  8. Where I can find to buy yuzu kosho red or green aswell as other nice cooking condiments kombu inc in Kyoto Osaka or Tokyo?

  9. can someone please tell me my job interview at 4 today is going to go well and even if it doesn’t it’s not the end of the world (i am applying for an overseas marketing position that would double my current tiny paycheck if i got it and I’m a perfect match on paper buuuuuut still stressed out)

  10. I’m moving into a new apartment next month and the living room floor is tatami. However, I own a 2 seater western style sofa from Nitori, with 5 legs.

What can I do to stop the tatami from being dented by the sofa?
I went to the home center and there’s these “cups” that you can buy for the feet to go inside, but I think that’s for wooden floor, to prevent it from being scraped, and it won’t stop tatami from being dented by the weight. I’ve bought extra thick “jigsaw puzzle” foam mats for kids to run around on, and thinking of putting those under the feet but I feel that even that won’t be enough to stop the tatami from being dented, as the foam will just compress over time…

  11. Going to Fukuoka, alone.

Any places you recommend? Especially cheap yatai for drinks/snacks?
I’ve been to famous places there, so do you have any less known spots you like?
